The remarkable thing about this game is that it was basically over in the first inning. That is unusual for us in the play offs. If they score on the play Judge got thrown out on it would be 3-2 runner on second one out. No guarantee anything else happens there, but totally diff than 3-1 2 outs. After watching that play a few times, Boegarts made a perfect throw. But more impressive was how quick he caught, turned and threw the ball. Really nice play.

lol that was genius on his part. We have an offense with three guys who can hit. With a team with starters like Odor, Gallo, et el his comments were patently obvious. Our problem with our pitchers is that they are always hurt. Every year. Theres not too much wrong with the pitching on this team in a normal playoff series they probably matchup pretty well. Cole-Taillon-Montogmery-Kluber in a 5 or 7 game series with Severino in the bullpen or piggybacking Kluber start prob keeps most teams in check. We wasted a ton of solid outings from Montgomery, where we didn’t score runs for him and didn’t play defense behind him. He should have won 15 games with some run support and Torres off of shortstop. Yankees will make a big splash for a SS next season without the luxury tax inhibitions.

Just annoying when they get 1 game away in 2017 and look so close to getting to the World Series. Then you add Stanton to a team that was 1 win away from the World Series and they haven't got close since.
Now it seems like they are farther away than ever.

You could say the same thing about the Texas Rangers a few years ago. Probably a lot of teams. I am not sure how we got this bad, personally I think it is amazing they made the play offs at all given the talent. Injuries were part of it, probably the biggest part. But our offense is woeful, one of the worse we have fielded.

Yea, but the problem is like ok maybe the Red Sox aren't a guarantee to be good next year, because they definitely benefited from their strong start they were only 36-34 after the allstar break while the Yankees went 46-26, but The Rays aren't going away. Toronto almost passed the Yankees in the standings this year and while they have some outstanding FAS like Seimen and Ray that aren't guarantees to come back I still feel they will be very competitive. So you have the potential at least and maybe 4 teams if the Red Sox are more consistent over a whole season. On top of that who knows if the Mariners can keep up what they did this year their record was a lot better than their on field performance, but you never know. Even Baltimore while I don't expect them to play for a playoff spot could get 10-20 more wins than they did this year.

Teams can go totally bad relatively quickly.

my guess is he is tired. But you are in danger of the Noetsi heresy to suggest Cole is less than awesome.

I just feel like it would feel a little more successful overall if the Yankees at least had made a World Series since 2017. I mean the Mets have the most recent World Series appearance in New York...

I dunno if they would have caught the Rays even in the 35-11 period the Rays were like 33-13 or something. Couldn't really play much better. Only thing differently is this game is probably in Yankee Stadium instead, but the Yankees the last month or so haven't played too great at home either. I think the hamstring for Cole never fully healed. Also this lineup is way too inconsistent after Rizzo-Judge-Stanton (no matter whatever order you put them). DJ obviously was a big reason this team didn't perform he was a trend setter the last 2 years this year he was no where near that. Gallo needs to fix his swing in the offseason. Torres, Sanchez, etc are way too inconsistent. LMH got older and Sanchez is a bad hitter and always has been. Whether Torres will be a good hitter may be moot since he can't play the infield where it matters. Inconsistency is not our problem. A lack of talent is. So, when Sanchez hit .290, he achieved that mark despite being a bad hitter? No. He has become a bad hitter… He was an absolute beast early in his career…
