LMH got older and Sanchez is a bad hitter and always has been. Whether Torres will be a good hitter may be moot since he can't play the infield where it matters. Inconsistency is not our problem. A lack of talent is. I can't blame 1 year of age for DJ falling off that much. It’s questionable as to whether or not DJ was dealing with injuries this season, simply fell into a slump, or is dealing with aging. Historically, many, many players have fallen off of cliffs and never returned to former glory. A few of them work like mad in the off season and wind up rebounding for a year or so. When we signed DJ, I knew the years would become a problem at some point. If we’re realistic and see him more as a utility player moving forward, albeit an expensive one, we should be happy with the product he delivers. If we expect another batting title or another 100 RBI year, I’d be stunned to see those still anywhere on his radar…

A lot of people thought he did better than he reasonably could already

The fact that they were in two world series and now are losing 100 games was my point. Teams can go totally bad relatively quickly. I just feel like it would feel a little more successful overall if the Yankees at least had made a World Series since 2017. I mean the Mets have the most recent World Series appearance in New York... I am more bothered that we have won 1 WS in the last 20 years. KC has that many

Until he leads them to a ring, I would not be surprised if the fans start giving Cole the Stanton treatment next year. In fact Stanton can probably trade his bullseye on the back jersey to Cole.
I'm not advocating it, but it wouldn't be shocking.

Hilarious as always Kaybli. You should be cashing in on that talent. Like Cole, except you come through in the big spots.

While yea he could have pitched better when he left it was 3-0 because Boone for once had the hook at the correct time. So with the way the team played in the same ballpark vs the same pitcher last week you would think they would be able to overcome that. So yea def put blame on him, but the rest of the team had plenty of time to pick him up.

Yep. It was only 3-0 when he left. A good team shouldn't find that insurmountable.

We also know there was a “lingering” hip problem, and we now know he was playing through a sports hernia that shall require off season surgery.

I can’t say this to be 100% so, but most likely the reason performance drops for players at a certain age would often be due to the body no longer recovering from the constant wear and tear injuries. I find it a bit unlikely that our reflexes and fast-twitch muscles simply suddenly deteriorate at age 32, or 34 without some help from extraneous circumstances. But, yeah. The lad seemed pretty beat up this year…
