not easy trading 2 of our overall best prospects for a rental though that would be make us a favorites to go deep in the post-season. burnes would be #2 we need backing cole up. haven't looked under the hood but for the orioles, trading prospects is less impactful as their system is loaded while ours is depleted because of other trades (soto). think the orioles got off cheap and surprised the brewers are punting on the season.
unfortunately the trade hurts us 2 ways. one, we didnt get him and two, he goes to our biggest rival.
overall not a good day in yankeeland as wandy signed a deal w the padres and middleton with the cards.

Would be stupid not to pull the trigger on that trade . Why the need to use the word stupid? How would it look if the Yankees traded Thorpe, King, Warren, Jones, for Soto and Burnes but weren't able to re-sign either Soto or Burnes?

Bumper, let's see, maybe the Yankees will find a way to counter the Orioles trade (Dylan Cease?).

How would it look if the Yankees traded Thorpe, King, Warren, Jones, for Soto and Burnes but weren't able to re-sign either Soto or Burnes? Well it would look like they atleast went all in for a title . You know like what the rangers did with monty . Besides prospects are just lottery tickets until they prove themselves in the majors . Tell me how would it have looked if they traded for neither one and most or all of those prospects didnt meet expectations ?

It would have looked like the Yankees didn't mortgage their future by painting themselves into a corner by trading so many prospects for 2 bigtime would be free agents that are going to receive huge contracts. By the way, the Rangers didn't trade prospects that are rated as high as Warren, Jones, Thorpe for Monty. They also didn't trade a pitcher like King in the trade for Monty.

There is no reward without risks That depends, the risk of the Yankees trading so many prospects for 2 players in the walk years would have to be within reason. ------ Losing Warren and Jones would possibly be felt for many years to come. If we don't sign Soto and Verdugo, we have to fill two outfield spots. Dominguez and Jones can be stars in the not to distant future. Let's not repeat Jay Bhuner for Ken Phelps (the worst trade that the Yanks ever made)------- Oburg Bob

There is a greater chance of atleast most of those prospects not panning out , like we have seen over the last ten years . While you are potentially risking the long term by making both those trade , its equally risking the long term by gambling on a bunch of unknown , unproven commodities .

I'm not super concerned with the bullpen, because the Yankees always seem to figure out bullpen arms, but the starting rotation has a lot of ?'s. As I said earlier Cole/Rodon/Stroman could be a good top 3 but between Rodon injuries and Nestor injuries it's a lot to bank on. I just hope they get one more guy for some insurance to the starting rotation.

I agree with you on the starting rotation but i dont know how one cannot be concerned with a bullpen that lost guys like king , peralta and middleton abd thats on top of other relievers like trevino that they lost too . And they did nothing to improve the bullpen this off season add a bunch of question marks .

I thought Middleton or Peralta would be coming back, but neither is coming back. Wonder what's up with Monty/Snell been quiet on them last few days.
